Another angle of the slope with a dry river bed for drainage
The perimeters of the property were planted with larger shrubs to keep the neighboring blackberry from crossing into the garden.
Stone path to parking area flanked by wild flowers and evergreen shrubs
Gravel paths are surrounded by Vine Maple, Flowering Currant, and Romneya.
This large site was a completely undeveloped slope of Blackberry and extremely poor soil. Because of the size of the site, low-maintenance plantings were felt to be essential. Photo shows the site after we had cleared Blackberry and Gorse.
Another view of graded and cleared slope
Three years after planting, the stone paths we installed have become less visible and the native wild flowers have taken hold.
This small section of the garden surrounds an existing patio and was planted with Mediterranean species to offer a different blooming season. Foreground shows Carpenteria californica.
